Third album by the "Pictavian Bastards", for maniaks of the ancient Black Metal style from the 80's. They're back with a more evil and primitive approach, still with some Punk and Rock'n'Roll touches. The album features 7 own tracks, including a 15 minutes epic one, and a BATHORY cover song. Influenced by VENOM, SABBAT, BATHORY, ABIGAIL, ATOMIZER, CARNIVORE, NME, BULLDOZER, VULCANO, IMPALED NAZARENE, MOTÖRHEAD, IRON MAIDEN... MANZER's lyrics are about Satan, alcohol, sex, Pictavia and blasphemy. Two songs have been written in Pictavian language (called Parlanjhe), a tradition in each of their releases. Fav: Burceau. Trad metal is like Sabbathian stoner; everyone loves it so much that there are a billion bands devoted to it, and that means a lot of samey. You really need some spice to stand out. Herzel have that spicy secret sauce. Everyone can do a galloping line, but is it adventurous? Unexpected melodic turns like turning a cobbled street corner to see a mighty vista? So I can't leave a long enough review to say everything I want. But I will say this, I love this EP. It's a great little follow up to times, and has just enough of a dynamic shift in sound to prove that Smoulder isn't a one trick pony with their first album's formula. This one really plays up the 70s prog aspects (DUST and Manilla Road influences definitely shine through even harder here). It's still Smoulder, don't get me wrong. Just a different side in some ways, all of which are good. playfulpooka
